A deceased person's clothing

Clothing left by someone who has died may carry emotional significance and form part of an estate requiring settlement. Distribution should not be decided merely because a charity would accept it. Identify who is authorised to decide and respect the applicable law before transferring belongings.

Practical checks: a deceased person's clothing

Once agreement is established, consider keeping, passing on within the family or donating items according to condition and legitimately established wishes. The charities linked explain collection arrangements, not ownership of the property. Estate disputes need appropriate legal advice, while religious questions should be separately explained to a qualified authority.
